I'm a green juice feen, a Nekter Juice Bar The Greenie after my spin class is one of my favorite Saturday morning rituals but a but a three day juice cleanse a whole different ball game. Advertisements for juice cleanses, and detox have been flooding my feed since 2017, but I've never once thought, "wow, that's something I need in my life" until my vacation last month.
Historically, I'm a healthy eater; I eat salads for lunch and veggies for dinner. Every once in a while I get a side of fries (if you don't you're not living), but after successfully eating my way through Western and Upstate New York I needed a reboot. I was craving foods I've successfully been staying away from, pizza, pasta, burritos you name it. My friend at work - she deserves more than a coworker title, mentioned that while I was off eating everything in site, she did the Nekter 3 Day Juice Cleanse and liked it. But was the 3 Day Juice Cleanse worth the hype?
My interest was peaked, but I couldn't find any unbiased options on juice cleanses. The only blog, posts, or articles I could find were sponsored posts; a lot of bloggers will tell you that their hair grew three feet and they can shoot vegetables through their eyes for $100. I wanted to do a juice cleanse for myself, pay for it with my own money, and share how I was feeling. If you're thinking about doing a juice cleanse or just like a laugh read below to see if the Nekter 3 Day Juice Cleanse is worth the hype.
This specific juice cleanse is a 3-day detox cleanse with six juices every day, every two hours . All six juices are a different flavor with no daily repeats — no eating just juice and lots of water designed to reboot your eating habits and cravings. Minus the no eating part what about this doesn't sound great? Nekter does offer a 1 and 5 day cleanse but I decided on a happy medium of 3 days.
The first juice of the day is a celery juice, least sweet out of the six. If you like to drink green juices with only vegetables, you won't have a problem with this one, but if you're not a fan of celery woooooof. That being said, I LOVED this juice give me all the veggies please!
Juice #2: Skinny Lemonade - Tumeric Citrus
A shock of sweetness hit me each day as I moved on to the second drink. The flavor was delightful, but I felt like I was sucking down a Slurpee from 7/11 and not a healthy drink. But it is healthy, how great is that! This juice would have to be watered down three times every day. Sweetness aside, the flavor was my favorite out of the six and would make a delicious cocktail.
Juice #3: Cold Pressed Juice - Healing Greens
I was excited to have a green juice in the mix, but this drink, although green was notably sweet. Talk about deceitful, I was expecting a welcoming flavor of greens but got hit with all apple. Again, this juice had to be watered down twice to make drinkable.
Juice #4: Skinny Lemonade - Charcoal
I've had this drink before and would describe as a gritty lemonade, and while you can't taste too much of the charcoal, it adds a different texture to the drink. I can't drink an over the counter lemonade on a regular day, so like the others, this needed to be watered down.
Juice #5: Cold Pressed Juice - Classic Greens
Green? Yes. Veggie flavored? No. I feel tricked by the colors of these drinks, this one was less sweet then the first but still had to be watered down just like the others.
Juice #6: Superfood Protein - Original
The "juice" I could never finish. Highest calorie drink out of the six, this juice was more like a shake than anything else, reminded me of melted cinnamon cereal milk. While this might sound good to you, I hate milk or anything that resembles it. I would try my best to drink this but would always end up passing.
During the cleanse, I created two main objectives that this cleanse needed to meet for it to be deemed worth it, health and cravings. Was I feeling refreshed? We're my bad food craving fading away? Was I starving every day?
Each day, the hunger would not hit until an hour after my workout. But yes, I was hungry. Exhausted by the end of the day, I felt my emotions were going from high to low in a seconds notice. By the third day, I was finding it hard to focus, with a massive amount of brain fog. But these were the only negatives on the health side.
After the first day, I wasn't craving bad foods - I just wanted food. A salad sounded amazing. Color me shook; I did not think this was possible.
I felt better than ever my body was finally getting the nutrients it deserved and needed. The most common question did you lose weight? Yes, some of my bloat disappeared, and I dropped water weight.
I did keep up with my workouts. I didn't think I would have the energy, but I did, and I had some of my best exercises in awhile.
I do not believe that Juice Cleanses get rid of toxins, that's what our kidneys are for. When I first started this cleanse, I didn't think that It would be anything more than losing water weight, but I was wrong.
Based on my main objectives, I would 100% recommend this juice cleanse. How many of us are eating the recommended fruits and veggies a day? Unless you are half rabbit, you probably aren't. Nekter Juice Cleanses a great way to push the restart button on your eating, and you might be lucky and lose some water weight.
