If you're just stumbling into the corporate world, bored out of you mind, or if you have a long drive ahead of you, Podcast's are a quick way to pass the time in every situation. Now, don't get me wrong it's 2017 and everyone has a Podcast, your IT guy? He has one. Your 7 year old niece that will murder you if you speak poorly about 1D? Yep. Spin class instructor? He has one too. There are many Podcast's to choose from which makes it hard to distinguish the good from the bad. When I first heard about Podcasts I immediately thought they would be NPR regurgitated news stories or a monotone voice telling me to eat more vegetables. Luckily, to no surprise at all, I was very wrong. I've discovered a few great Podcast's that won't put you to sleep.
Serial // This American Life
I can almost see the eye rolls as I'm sitting at my computer writing this, but for newbie Podcast listeners Serial is a must. The gateway drug of Podcast's that will fuel your new found love for true crime. I have to say, this is one of the most engrossing stories I've ever had the pleasure of being on the edge of my seat for. This podcast follows the murder case of Hae Min Lee and the conviction of her ex-boyfriend Adnan Syed. It isn't a straight forward case like one would assume. Nothing is clear with this Podcast, yet you will be left with a strong opinion of the case and a need for more information.
True Crime Garage // Nic & The Caption
Each week two guys sit in a garage, drink beer, and discuss actual crimes. TCG passes for a male alternative to the infamous My Favorite Murder Podcast, with more facts and less banter. They cover interesting cases that haven't already been done 1000x and are sure to discuss small details that often get overlooked by others. Sometimes divided into multiple parts you will find yourself refreshing the page until Part 2 is available. Subscribe, crack open a beer beacuse the jib is tight with this one.
Casefile // Anonymous
A Podcast that you should not listen to before bed. Casefile, is impeccably directed with outstanding music and well timed 911 inserts. The fiercely anonymous host comely tells stories in his haunting Australian accent covering murder, abductions, and unsolved crimes. This podcast shows that accents have a profound effect on mood. Although it's focused on crime, the host doesn't linger on the violence, a refreshing concept that helps if you decide to binge listen to all available episodes.
S - Town // Brian Reed
Taking a break from murders and true crime the producers of Serial created a detailed addictive story following the life of John B. McLamore in "Shit Town", Alabama. Trying not to give too much away, it's a well told story where one learns that all life experiences are different. Having this knowledge it allows us to set judgment aside and enjoy the story that's being told. This podcast will pull at all of your heart strings and is one of the best podcast's I've ever had the pleasure of listening to.
